NT Scan

Yesterday we went in for our NT scan which is an ultrasound and blood test that checks for Downs. While our chances of this are very slim, I have to admit I chose to do the test for selfish reasons...I wanted to see what Baby looks like now.
From what I've read in my books, the test usually takes about 15 minutes. When we went, Baby was moving all around from the second she started the ultrasound. It was so amazing to see it's little arms and legs moving around like crazy followed by massive body shaking hiccups. I just can't believe that I can't feel all of that going on in there. Baby refused to get in the position needed to take a measurement so the tech had me twist, cough, bounce, and tilt on my head all in an attempt to move in to the right place. Nothing worked...stubborn booger! I guess she eventually got something good enough after an hour! We have to call our doctor in a week to get the results.

11 Weeks

I attempted to use the self timer on my camera this week but I'm not too sure I like the outcome. Only 2 more weeks until the horrible blue, extra tight shirt goes into retirement. I'm done with it after the first trimester! You'll also have to excuse the make-up less, messy hair Spring Break look :)

Dr. Apt.

We had our first OB appointment this morning and all went well. We got to hear the baby's heart beat again which was at 170 bpm. The doc said the rate will end up lowering in the next few weeks. More exciting news...my weight is exactly the same as it was at my first appointment. Somehow the 2.5 pounds that I gained last visit disappeared even though I haven't really been getting all that sick anymore. They also drew 7 vials of blood to test for all kinds of illnesses, diseases, and what not. We've got an NT scan scheduled for next Thursday which uses ultrasound to determine the baby's risk of Downs. New pic tomorrow!

So I saw this one another blog and thought it was a great way to get meal ideas for the week. Here's what's for dinner at the Becker house:

Monday: Larosas
Tuesday: lemon pepper fish, baked potatoes
Wednesday: Mett pitas with onion and peppers
Thursday: Chicken Madiera
Friday: meatloaf

So what are you eating for dinner this week? Share your ideas!

10 Weeks

I knew last week when I posted that the nausea would return. It definitely has. In the last few days I've had more dry heaving nastiness in the mornings than I have since it all started. I'm so looking forward to the morning sickness ending. I guess it's baby's way of letting me know that everything's ok.

I told my students today about the baby and they were so excited. A few suggested I name the baby after them and one oh so adorable pain in the rear stated, "that explains a lot!" Gotta love 10 year olds!

We have our first real appointment this Wednesday. I'm not really sure what to expect other than it's a 45 minute appointment. I'll keep you posted. In the meantime, here are some new belly pics (wow, where'd that come from!)

9 Weeks

This week has proven to be better than the most recent ones. So far I've had 2 and a half days without any nausea or the puking the accompanies it. I'd love to say the morning sickness might be gone but from what I've read, it tends to come back with a vengeance. Right now I'll just count my blessings and enjoy the good days.

I just finished taking my 9 week pictures and feel like a huge blob. I know I've gained weight but all I'm showing for it right now are larger, more defined rolls. I just want to start looking pregnant to justify myself. I'm still wondering why I listened to my mom and decided to wear such a hideous shirt for my pictures but I guess it really defines everything...unfortunately. Hopefully soon I'll get to take my weekly pictures in maternity clothes so I can hide a little:)

My normal, everyday clothes are way too stinking tight for me right now with all this bloat so I'm attempting to wear maternity clothes as much as possible. Right now I only have two pairs of maternity pants so I'm hoping to go shopping for more this weekend.

Here's baby Becker this week:
You may be able to hear the heartbeat this week with the help of a Doppler, an ultrasound device that captures the chug-a-chug sound of baby's heart. The first time you hear baby's heart, your own heart may skip a beat—it's the first real evidence that there's someone growing inside you! If you can't hear the heartbeat, no worries, your doc will just check again in a few weeks. Other amazing developments this week:Baby is beginning to move, but you won't be able to feel anything for some time.Baby is growing nipples and hair follicles (although there's still a chance you'll be giving birth to a baldy!) His pancreas, gallbladder, bile ducts and anus are all in place, ready to poop and pee a dozen times a day when he's born. Your baby's head is half the size of his body and his little chin is tucked into his chest. His tiny tail is beginning to shrink away, giving Junior a more human and less amphibious look.Until now, all pre-babies look the same "down there." This week, however, your baby will begin to develop either male or female genitalia. In layman terms, your baby is beginning to develop her hoo-ha or his wee-wee. While you won't be able to find out the gender of your baby for several more weeks, the version you'll give birth to is being developed right now. At this stage, your developing fetus is 1-inch in length, about the size of a martini olive (you remember martinis, don't you?) and weighs a mere 2 grams—a little less than a penny.
